Yaksha – A Celestial Feast of Music and Dance

Begun in January 2010, Yaksha is an annual performing arts festival organized by the Isha Foundation, the festival features musical concerts and dances by eminent performing artistes from around the country and is aimed toward preserving and promoting India’s traditional music and dance forms. This year, from March 3rd to March 9th, Isha Foundation at the Isha Yoga Centre, Coimbatore brings to you –Yaksha 2013, 9 consecutive nights of performance by some of the greatest artists India has ever seen, amidst the sacred space of the Dhyanalinga Yogic Temple located at the foothills of the verdant Velliangiri Mountains.

The name of the festival is inspired by Yakshas – celestial beings in Indian mythology. 7 day long festival will have number of performances scheduled every night which include Carnatic and Hindustani music, elements of Indian classical dance, such as Bharatanatyam, and the lilting instrumentals of the Sarod, Sitar, Tabla and Violin and also the folk performers from throughout the world.

The instrumental and vocal concerts takes place in beautiful pandal, which is just in front of the Linga Bhairavi Temple. The dance performances takes place in a spacious open-air auditorium behind the Nandi, with an amazing view of star-studded sky, the silhouettes of the Dhyanalinga Temple and the mountains. One would cherish the atmosphere of the concert. Be a part of this amazing and colorful festival which brings the Indian classical music and dance forms to life.
