Arattupuzha Pooram – Oldest Pooram in Kerala

If you are in Kerala then schedule a trip that takes you to Arattupuzha Pooram festival which is one of the oldest Poorams celebrated in the Arattupuzha Temple in Thrissur district of Kerala by the evening of 25th March 2013.


An all night Arattupuzha Pooram festival is centered on a procession of 61 elephants that are adorned to glory, each one fully bedecked with a silken umbrella and a white tuft. This festival is more of an elephant festival which is one of its types and additionally provides the scenery for many ancient percussion teams of the local areas to showcase their performances and arts and even the instrument performances are witnessed. There is also an elephant race that takes place during the festival.


Throught the seven day festival 23 Deities are worshiped ritualistically and on the sixth day evening , elephants procession begins at 7 pm and goes on to the next morning, with all the elephants facing the east to welcome the sun.The Arattupuzha Pooram is a powerful event and a beautiful way to experience the wealthy culture and tradition of Kerala.
